Why It’s All About Fascia

Fascia is a type of connective tissue that runs continuously throughout our entire body and enables every movement we make. The plantar fascia refers to the band of fascia that runs underneath the bottom of the heel and foot.

Plantar Fasciitis generally refers to pain underneath the heel and/or arch of the foot resulting from stress and micro-tears of the plantar fascia, which may also result in an inflammatory reaction. 1 2 3 It is quite common and estimated to affect 10% of the population in their lifetime.4

Various factors can increase the likelihood or severity of plantar fasciitis, including injury, overuse, insufficient arch support, flat feet, high arches, improper walking or running form, poorly fitting shoes, and more. 3 Plantar Fasciitis results in pain around the heel and/or arch of the foot, particularly as pressure is applied to the affected plantar fascia during movement. It can make everyday activities very uncomfortable, including walking.

How Can RELIEF® Help Plantar Fasciitis?

A technician conducting a medical scanA technician conducting a medical scanA technician conducting a medical scan

Studies have found that the plantar fascia tends to be thicker due to plantar fasciitis and that a reduction in its thickness is associated with an improvement in symptoms.5 6 7 8 9 This is consistent with various studies finding that areas of injury in general tend to have thickened and tighter fascia.10 11 12 13 14 15 16

RELIEF® is used to address areas of potentially thickened, dehydrated, or tightened fascia that may be resulting in pain, and the procedure can be done directly within the plantar fascia. The treatment utilizes a hydrodissection technique to introduce growth factors, and we believe may be an effective method of addressing plantar fasciitis.17 18 19 20 21 22

RELIEF® is minimally invasive and often fast-acting. 4 out of 5 RELIEF® patients report improvement in their 2-week post-treatment survey. The procedure does not require medication, surgery, bedrest, or post-procedure immobilization and has helped thousands to overcome painful conditions and get back to their best.
