Nerve entrapment occurs when a nerve is compressed by surrounding tissues, leading to symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness. This condition may arise from repetitive motion injuries, prolonged pressure on a nerve, trauma, or various conditions, including arthritis, that lead to inflammation and swelling.7,8,9
The Role of Fascia in Nerve Entrapment
Fascia is a layer of connective tissue that encases muscles, nerves, tendons, and other structures throughout the body, providing structural support and facilitating smooth movement. Due to injury, overuse, or inflammation, fascial layers may become dehydrated, stiffened, and thickened. This can result in the affected fascia putting additional pressure on nerves that run throughout it.1,7,10 Whereas healthy fascia is hydrated and spacious, allowing nerves to sit and function comfortably, once the fascial structure becomes thicker and tighter, encased nerves often become compressed. This pressure, due to nerve entrapment within the fascia, often results in pain, numbness, tingling.5,6,10 Certain movements, where the already compromised nerves experience abrupt added pressure, can also result in moments of acute pain, that often which has a sensation of traveling up or down a limb, or throughout the body.
Addressing the interaction between fascia and nerve entrapment is essential, as it may provide a direct path to releasing nerve entrapment within tissue and solving for a root cause of discomfort.
How RELIEF® Can Help Nerve Entrapment
The RELIEF® procedure is a minimally invasive approach designed to address the underlying issues of nerve entrapment by specifically targeting fascia that may be putting pressure on nearby nerves. The treatment combines ultrasound guidance, hydrodissection, AMUC injections, and more to release fascia restrictions and free entrapped nerves.2,3,4
- Initial Assessment: A comprehensive ultrasound tissue assessment to identify areas of fascial restriction and dehydration around an affected nerve or area of pain.
- Ultrasound-Guided RELIEF®: Our physicians use ultrasound guidance to precisely target and hydrate tightened fascia to help reduce nerve tension. The procedure is designed to separate and release fascia layers, and may help release compression on the nerve, promote healing and help to reduce or cure the symptoms of nerve entrapment.
The RELIEF® procedure may directly address fascia-related issues contributing to nerve entrapment symptoms, improving function, alleviating pain, and enhancing the overall quality of life for patients with nerve entrapment.
RELIEF® For Jon Marashi’s Nerve Entrapment
Jon Marashi
Cosmetic Dentist, Los Angeles
Jon Marashi, known as the “Tom Ford of Dentistry” in Los Angeles California, has spent over two decades providing exceptional care to his Hollywood patients. However, the toll of hunching over to deliver precise dental work over the years was catching up with him.
"All day long I worked bent over, my neck pinched, and after years and years of doing this, I was getting very severe nerve pains through the side of my head and developed nerve impingement in my left arm.”
The fascia in Jon’s neck had become stiff and dehydrated from bearing the additional weight of his head while he was hunching over to treat patients for many years. This stiffness within the tissue ended up putting intense pressure on encased nerves, and resulted in pain that was so severe he was considering ending his dentistry practice altogether. After undergoing the RELIEF® treatment, Jon’s entrapped nerves were released and his pain subsided . The procedure was able to identify the problematic tissue around his neck that was causing his nerve compression and release the adhesions and entrapment.
“I got my strength and mobility back. It has been a life-changing thing for me."
