RELIEF® For Restricted Mobility

Decorative

Restricted mobility refers to the inability to move a body part freely and comfortably, which can stem from a variety of causes such as injury, surgery, various conditions, inactivity, aging, and more. This limitation can significantly affect quality of life by making daily activities challenging and often painful.

Restricted Mobility

The Role of Fascia in Restricted Mobility

Fascia is a network of connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, joints, ligaments, and other structures throughout the body, and is crucial for movement and flexibility. Fascia may become stressed due to injury, overuse, poor posture, inflammation, and more.5,6 This can cause the tissue to tighten, dehydrate, and/or develop adhesions.1,4 These structural changes within the fascia may impede nearby structures, and result in a reduced range of motion and increased discomfort during movement, as a result of the stress placed on nearby structures as they attempt to move and function against the tightered fascia.4,7,8

Restricted mobility can also cause patients to take on compensatory movement patterns to avoid discomfort, leading to further strain on connective tissue as well as other musculoskeletal structures. This added strain can lead to further injury and stiffness in the surrounding fascia over time. This can create a unwanted cycle where restricted mobility and damaged fascia may worsen each other.1,8

Addressing fascia may be an important part of managing restricted range of motion, as it may open up new routes for fascia-focused treatments, potentially improving outcomes and quality of life for patients with restricted mobility.

How Can RELIEF® Help Restricted Mobility?

The RELIEF® procedure is an innovative approach designed to address an underlying cause of reduced range of motion by specifically targeting fascia. The treatment combines ultrasound guidance, hydrodissection, and AMUC injections to help release fascia restrictions, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue healing.2,3

Initial Assessment: The procedure begins with a comprehensive tissue assessment using ultrasound to identify areas of fascial restriction and dehydration around areas of restricted mobility.

Ultrasound-Guided RELIEF®: Our physicians use ultrasound guidance to precisely target, hydrate, and release tightened fascia. The procedure is designed to separate and release fascia layers, which may promote healing around the area of restricted mobility and help to restore mobility by addressing fascial restrictions that may have been resulting in the lost range of motion.

The RELIEF® procedure may be used to directly address fascia-related issues contributing to restricted mobility, helping to improve joint function, alleviate pain, and restore lost mobility.

RELIEF® For Dr. Luis Leyva’s Restricted Mobility

Luis Leyva Jr., MD

Gynecologist and Obstetrician

Expert Gynecologist and Obstetrician, Dr. Luis Leyva, MD, specializes in safe and effective surgical care at OB/GYN Associates of Miami. In 2012, he received the title of America’s Top Obstetrician and Gynecologist by Consumers’ Research Council of America and made Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors list in 2015.

Dr. Leyva was facing severe shoulder pain and restricted mobility due to adhesive capsulitis, an inflammatory condition where the body develops excessive scar tissue and inflammation in the shoulder joint. Unable to lift either arm laterally to 90 degrees, he tried the RELIEF® procedure.

After one RELIEF® session, Dr. Leyva experienced a dramatic improvement, regaining the ability to lift his arms above his head immediately after treatment. The RELIEF® procedure was able to rehydrate and release the adhered fascia surrounding his restricted shoulder joints, effectively relieving the pressure on his shoulder and restoring his range-of-motion.

"It's really amazing," he shared, right after his first treatment.
