The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body, extending down each leg from the lower back and into the heel of each foot. It helps control the muscles along the back of the knee and lower leg, and provides sensation to the hamstring, lower leg, and parts of the foot. It plays an essential role in standing, walking, and running. If the sciatic nerve becomes compressed, it can cause numbness, tingling, and severe pains throughout the lower back and/or leg, known as Sciatica.1
The Role of Fascia in Sciatica
The sciatic nerve is surrounded by a type of connective tissue called fascia, the health of which may actually be a very important factor for preventing or overcoming the nerve compression that can result in Sciatica.3 4 51
Generally, the fascial layers are hydrated and spacious enough to allow the sciatic nerve room to sit and function comfortably.
However, studies have found that due to injury, poor posture, overuse, and other factors, fascia may become hardened, dehydrated, and thickened and may put pressure on nearby nerves. If this occurs around the sciatic nerve, the compression may result in mind to severe symptoms around the lower back and/or legs, including pain, numbness, tingling, paresthesia, loss of muscle function, and more. 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14
How RELIEF® Can Help Sciatica
RELIEF® is used to address areas of potentially thickened, dehydrated, or hardened fascia that may be compressing the sciatic nerve. The treatment utilizes a hydrodissection technique to introduce growth factors and we believe may provide an effective method of addressing a compromised sciatic nerve.2 3 4
RELIEF® is minimally invasive and often fast-acting. 4 out of 5 RELIEF® patients report improvement in their 2-week post-treatment survey. The procedure does not require medication, surgery, bedrest, or post-procedure immobilization and has helped thousands to overcome painful conditions and get back to their best. By addressing the fascia surrounding the sciatic nerve, RELIEF® may help to relieve existing nerve entrapment and reverse symptoms.15 16 17

RELIEF® for Mike Tyson’s Sciatica
Mike Tyson
Former Professional Boxer
Mike Tyson’s struggle with Sciatica gained attention in the Fall of 2022 after being photographed in a wheelchair. He then opened up publicly about his struggles with the condition, which would flare up so severely that he would be unable to walk or even talk.
The boxing legend came to see Dr. Abhinav Gautam in the spring of 2023. By using RELIEF® to address the fascia that was surrounding his sciatic nerve, the procedure was able to release the entrapment and relieve Mike of his symptoms and flare-ups.
“I’ve never been this great. I’m feeling magnificent”
